Finishing touch DSO Challenge

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

I thought this was super cute.

I *think* I already have the paper on the Finishing Touch challenge BG from a kit. It looked awfully familiar anyway.

Anyway, here was my submission for it.

I was scared to start submitting for challenges, but I did like 3....in the last day :X hahahaha.

March Lyric Challenge

Monday, March 9, 2009

I did this too. I am having fun doing this because I don't have to think about why I want to make something, since there is already a reason!
I love that silly little picture frame. I am going to use it FOREVER!
So yeah, check out DSO for Marches Challenges.

New layout: Main Blog

I redid my main 'everything else goes here' blog -- self titled "thats what she said".

I think it is pretty anyway.

Also, I finally did my first challenge over at DSO. I have just accepted, if I did it wrong -- I will learn. I did the template challenge, I used Willy since I have a bajillion pictures of him.

Here is a preview of what I did for the challenge.
So, anyway. The little "how do I love thee" writings on this was from a cute little set of sayings that would parody "how do I love thee -- let me count the ways". It was cute and made me laugh and was entirely appropriate for this dog.

The poor fella came in the house last night after playing outside ALL day limping. I was worried, particularly because we have a really huge unexpected expense and I am praying that Willy did not seriously hurt himself. I felt his leg, moved it around, put pressure on it and he never did so much as bat an eye, but he carried his leg most of the night. When we woke up this morning to another beautiful day, he was not limping so I was relieved. After spending a good part of the day outside again, he came in limping again and I went through my meticulous exam again and still found nothing. I am hoping its just a pulled muscle, but the next couple days should reveal whether or not I need to take him to the vet.

Our unexpected large expense is this: As new home owners, we have been here just over a year now, we had no clue what to expect our water bills to be. We don't leave water running, we have a energy/water efficient washing machine, we keep our showers short..and our water bill keeps climbing and climbing. With just the two of us here, our bill has doubled from this time last year. We have a leak. Basically, during the time our house was built -- a blue plastic pipe was quite the popular choice which resulted in billions of dollars in a lawsuit years later. We, unfortunately cannot take a stake in this claim because the house is almost 20 years old and the law suit says you can be reimbursed if the pipe was replaced within 10 years of original placement. So...this sucks for us, particularly because our water meter is all the way across our yard, so they have to trench across most of our yard to lay in new lines and get rid of this blue poly pex junk. We have a monster puddle outside and when the plumber dug up where the line connects to the house, it instantly filled with water.

The good news: Because we are first time home owners, we can claim to be kind of dumb (which is true in this case). We can take our repair receipt to the water company and they will supposedly credit us back to a normal rate for the time where the water bill first started climbing.

Just to give you an idea, our last water bill was $120. So, maybe we won't have to pay for water for a little while.

In any event, this is unexpected and expensive, we spent the weekend getting quotes on the repair. *sigh*

In any event, things are going well for us other than that. I had an excellent job interview which may be promising. After my interview I was sent off to take a drug test at a lab and signed some papers to have a background check done, soooo I am hoping that I get a good call soon because some good news would be great right now.

Good grief...all this because I posted my DSO challenge.

I don't usually fill out these things, but I like this one (especially since I looked and saw what pic it was LOL).My poor dog is fearful of loud rumbling noises, such as fireworks, guns, and storms. We had a nasty storm blow through a couple weeks ago. Sophie hides and shakes non-stop. Sometimes she squeezes her chunky butt under our bed, hides behind the toilet, in the closet, or somewhere near me. I knew she was hiding because it was storming, I looked to see what the clattering was coming from my printer and voila, she was laying on my printer mashing buttons and shaking. Usually, when it gets like this, I take her to bed with me, pet/hug her and turn the tv on to try and cover up some of the outside noise. So this, is a fearful little Sophie being a big chicken.

A few Daffodils

Monday, February 16, 2009

There are a LOT of little buds that have not bloomed, but here is the beginning (:
We seem to have tons of little clusters of daffodils around the house. I think its lovely! It was kind of chilly and I was wearing shorts so this is the pic you get!

Isabelle

I am sure by this point its like " How many pets does she have?!? " Well, I have three cats, two dogs, and a beautiful beta fish. We used to have a pet rat, but she passed recently from cancer ): She was old for a rat, she had a super life with us though. How many rats can say they got to attack cats? She would leap at the cats and grab their fur if they got too close to her -- interesting I know? Anyway, I have a big heart for animals and I hate seeing homeless creatures. As long as we have the money and I have the time, they are where my heart is (: All of our cats are rescues (one way or another) and our miniature schnauzer Sophie is also a rescue. The only non rescue we have is Willy, because every little dog needs a big little brother LOL..anyway. Here is the page I made for Isabelle.

Fun with Gifs (GIFINKIES)

Thursday, February 12, 2009

An excellent tutorial is posted here on how to make your very own super dooper action packed blinkie. I have been trying to do this new thing of following directions exactly, because I usually do my own thing -- and seeing how it goes. So consider this the first success. Lol.

Bright green is my favorite color and tulips are by far my favorite flower (:

Are Furry. haha.

Here is what I made tonight using:
Dranet Flowers and Boxes - template
CMS Felty dog - backgrounds
Cecil - greenpepper kit- glittery swirl thing
Nanine Elements - Stiching frame
Mimilou -Souffle Kit - glitter flowers

This was the first one I made:

Then I made one for Sophie(its prettier):

It took three hours..

I quickly realized it was nearly impossible to go through each file/folder every time I wanted something. I broke down all of my folders as follows:

It took me about three hours..I did not realize I had as much stuff as I do. I just keep downloading! (Hahaha). So anyway, now I have my main folder which is scrapbooking> ALL files including my original sets where the shortcuts lead back to so I can identify each piece + all my categories. I am not sure how other people go about doing this, but that is how I am doing it for now. It seems easy enough, as I download new stuff it will go into the scrapbooking folder uncategorized and stand our like a sore thumb waiting for me to move it into the original files folder and then divvy out all the shortcuts to their new destinations.

Is there an easier way? Lol.

First page

This was the first page I have done so go easy. It was a lot of fun creating this, choosing the photos and colors. I know it is kind of simple, but its a start. Hopefully they get bigger and better (:

Changed Slightly

I added a few changes to my layout. Because I run a wide screen resolution I know what I see and what you see may be slightly different. Let me know if things are or are not lined up (:

Anyway, here is a thumbnail of the background I see when I view my blog. Enjoy!

Layout fun/practice

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

I started out tonight making a rather simple design.
Elements used in it are from:
Kit Alpha Black and White by Mimilou
October 2008
http://mimiscrapdigital.com/blog/
http://scrapmalin.com

I progressed into something a little more difficult using elements from:
Kit Green Pepper by Cécile & Thaliris
December 2008
http://thaliris.canalblog.com/
http://www.digital-crea.fr
Then I thought to myself "this does not have to have both sides matching". And voila, a new layout was born. I have optimized the background to look the best from a wide screen perspective so you may see it a little differently than I do. In any event, here is a thumbnail of my current fullscreen view.

It truly is fun!

Thanks to a long time friend who will remain nameless (haha), I have been sucked into the blogging/crafting/and mostly scrap-booking junkie vortex. But it is OH so fun!!! Please take a moment to enjoy my new beautiful layout (: Credits and information about the kits I used can be found on the lower right side of my blog.

Now that my crafting blog is appropriately decorated, I think it is time to start digitally scrap-booking.

One-Block Wonder

Thursday, February 5, 2009

One-Block Wonders are what my sewing career will hopefully soon aspire to. I think the designs and finished pieces are absolutely beautiful. I am learning to enjoy various crafts that are quite tedious to be fine art-forms. Without further adieu, let me introduce One-Block Wonders to you. The same piece of pattern is cut (exactly) six times to create six identicle sides (a hexagon). You do this over and over, as you can see from the example to the right. The example below demonstrates a closer perspective of this technique using a different pattern so you can get a better feel for what is going on.

Sewing Inspirations

I have recently started relearning how to crochet and sew. To be honest, sewing is a lot harder than I remembered it being. Also, I have a hard time cutting fabric straight so that probably does not help my case at all. Anyway, once I can sew a straight line again, I have found something I am extremely interested and excited about working on. They are called One-Block Wonders. Basically, you take a fabric which has some huge repetitive print on it and you make a hexagon with 6 identical pieces of fabric. This link shows a completed piece which is one of my current favorites so far, it also demonstrates another OBW technique, the squares. (The image to the right is not a one-block wonder example.)
